What to Expect
Laura's therapy space is a dedicated room in her home, in the beautiful village of Roslin, just south of Edinburgh.
The room is equipped with underfloor heating, weighted and heated blankets, an aerial yoga hammock and all the yoga props and equipment you might need.
There are options for both sitting on the floor, or on a comfortable chair depending on your needs and preferences, and practice can take place on either a mat or chair.
Location
Laura works in person from her home in Roslin EH25 9LP and offers online sessions.
Initial contact
Once you have emailed your enquiry, Laura will confirm whether she has suitable availability and will arrange a free initial 30-minute call. This call provides an opportunity to discuss your goals for yoga therapy sessions. If you both decide to proceed, Laura will schedule your first session, allowing you to determine whether the yoga therapy sessions are the right fit for you.
Intake form
Before the initial session, you will be asked to complete an intake form. You need only provide information you feel comfortable to disclose. The form is confidential and will allow Laura time to prepare an individual yoga therapy plan for you.
What to wear
No special clothes required. Please wear comfortable clothing you can easily move in.
Initial session
The initial session is for both you and Laura to gauge if the yoga therapy sessions may be helpful for you. There is no requirement or expectation to continue with further sessions if you feel Laura’s approach is not for you. However, if you choose to go ahead, it is recommended you commit to at least 12 sessions, as the benefits of yoga therapy can be slow to develop. Yoga therapy is certainly not a quick fix and involves changes which take time to happen so that the transformation can be sustainable and long-lasting.
Check-in
During your first session, you will review your intake form together and address any questions Laura may have. The session will focus on beginning the yogic and somatic practices that will guide your work together.
The discussion portion of the session can take place either seated comfortably in a chair or on a cushion on the floor, depending on your preference.Assessment
Laura may lead you through a breath and/or physical assessment where she will begin to get a better idea of how yoga therapy may be able to assist you.
Practice
Laura will introduce practices that she feels may support your well-being. These may include breathing techniques, chanting, sounding, gentle movement and postures, meditation, mindfulness, visualisation, emotional release techniques, and deep relaxation.
Each session is guided by your comfort and sense of safety. You will only be offered practices that feel right for you, so you can engage at your own pace.
Further Sessions
Ongoing sessions will include continued discussion, somatic exploration, and practices focused on the themes that arise as you work together. Each check-in helps shape the session, supporting you and Laura to co-create a meaningful, therapeutic space tailored to your needs.
Touch
Laura will never offer any hands-on assistance with your yoga poses without first obtaining your consent. While some people find supportive touch therapeutic or helpful, others may not. Your preferences will always be fully respected.
Home Practice
Change is often faster and more lasting with the support of a regular home practice. Laura will work with you to develop a self-directed practice tailored to your needs, lifestyle, health conditions, disabilities, and energy levels. She understands that establishing a home practice can be challenging, particularly for those living with c/PTSD, and will support you by creating bespoke video and audio practices to guide you at home.
Developing a home practice is not a prerequisite for working with Laura.
